Circular hiking trail Cattenstedt Timmenrode Wienrode

Short Description

This easy circular hiking trail connects the districts of Cattenstedt, Wienrode, and Timmenrode on comfortable paths through scenic meadows and along gnarled, old orchard stands through the lovely Hase Valley. In the well-kept, rural villages, you will find places to stop for refreshments during your hike.

Directions

Follow the signposting R on the green flower petal.

Due to the course of the trail, the hike can start in any of the three districts. These directions refer to the start in Wienrode near the information point at the Harzstraße/ Mühlenstraße corner. Follow Harzstraße initially towards Treseburg. Behind the alpaca farm, turn left onto Wildapfelweg, a sunny field and meadow path that leads straight through the Wienrode horse paddocks for about 1.5 km. At the end of the meadows, after a few meters through the tall beech forest, you will reach the wide forest path to Forsthaus Eggerode. Here you will cross the R1 long-distance cycle path and continue straight past the forest house and up the mountain. On this stretch, you will walk for quite a distance on the Harzer Klosterwanderweg towards Timmenrode. From the open field, a wonderful view of the Harz heights near Thale with the Hexentanzplatz and the hilly northeastern Harz foothills opens up to the right. The Küsterberg greets you with a view of the idyllic Timmenrode lying in front of you. In the distance, the Hamburger Wappen, an impressive rock formation of the Teufelsmauer, greets you. Through the village, you will walk along Roßtrappenstraße, Blankenburger Straße, and Harzstraße. Before the hedge and along the gray wooden fence in front of the houses on the right side, the path turns right into the Hase Valley. The valley lined with old fruit trees is particularly charming during the spring blossom. At the allotment gardens, turn left onto the wide field path uphill to the intersection. Straight ahead, you would return to Wienrode quickly. However, at this point, the circular hiking trail turns right towards Cattenstedt. With a view of Blankenburg Castle and Luisenburg, you will walk into the village of Cattenstedt on the Steinweg. Upon reaching the main street, follow it to the right until the turnoff to Am Teichkopf. From here, it is only a little over 1 kilometer to the district of Wienrode, which you reach on Kampstraße. Passing by the school and kindergarten, you will reach the starting point of the hike.
