Circular hiking trail from Hüttenrode to the Harzer-Hexen-Stieg

Short description

The circular hiking trail Hüttenrode leads along the most famous hiking trail in the Harz mountains, the Harzer Hexenstieg. Comfortable, wide paths through the foundation forest alternate with the idyllic path that winds along the reservoir and the Bode river, as well as with the vastness of the Harz landscape on the Hochharzebene.

Route description

The circular hike starts at the hiking parking lot at the sports field in Hüttenrode. Here you will find free parking. Directly from the parking lot, a small path leads into the forest next to the cemetery. Follow this path for about 500 m along the edge of the village before turning left at the end of the forest road into the beech forest. The comfortable, wide path leads after about 4 km to the former abandoned inn Almsfeld. Please turn right here. After a short stretch directly along the road L 94, turn left into the forest. After a few hundred meters and a short descent, you reach the most famous hiking trail in the Harz mountains, the Harzer Hexenstieg. Following the signage R or the witch, the trail leads towards the reservoir, but initially remains on the mountainside. From here, you can catch a glimpse through the trees of the reservoir and the opposite pumped storage power plant. But first, following the trail, you walk along a free high plateau under the double power line. At the bench on the left side, turn left. From here, the terrain drops down to river level. While descending, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Rappbodetalsperre dam and the suspension bridge in some parts. The next 2.5 km offer an idyllic, partially natural path along the reservoir and the Bode river. You reach the pretty mountain village Neuwerk with its half-timbered houses located on the mountainside of the Bodetal. Here, you have the opportunity to stop at the Bodetaler Wirtshaus of the Bodetaler Basecamp Lodge - a real insider tip if you briefly leave the circular hiking trail and follow the course of the Bode river. The Harzer Hexenstieg also continues along the Bode river. If you want to continue following our circular hiking trail, orient yourself through the narrow streets following the R-signage uphill towards Oberdorf. After the ascent, you will be rewarded with a beautiful view of the Bodetal at the bench. You will return to Hüttenrode via the Hochharzebene. Here, you can take a deep breath once more and enjoy the vastness of the Harz landscape. Once you arrive in the village, simply follow the main street to the left towards Blankenburg to return to the starting point.
