The Upper Bandweg takes you through the forests surrounding the beautiful half-timbered town of Stolberg with a great view of the castle. With various points of interest such as Lutherbuche, the deer monument, the castle, or Mägdefleck, it is always an inviting circular hiking trail that can be climbed in stages through many ascents and descents.
From the starting and ending point, Stolberg train station, the ascent towards Silberbach/Lutherbuche begins. This well-developed path is followed to the Himmelsleiter and then to Lutherbuche. From there, you have a beautiful view of the castle and the town of Stolberg. The path becomes somewhat more strenuous until the descent to the festival grounds. From there, you walk along the Lude to the Hirschallee and now come across the Upper Hirschallee to Schloss Stolberg, which is very impressive. Via Parkweg, you reach Kaltes Tal where you cross Große Wilde over a wooden bridge and follow Tannenanstieg to Hirtengasse, where the Kleine Weg follows behind the cemetery. You then use the Alte Auerbergstraße to Schneiderborn, from where you descend to Lutherweg, where you come directly back to the Upper Bandweg. You follow this until Mägdefleck, where you once again have a beautiful, quiet place to rest. From now on, the Upper Bandweg leads you to Thyrahöhe where the descent along Thyragrotte leads back to the parking lot at the train station.
From the starting point, walk 200m to the Upper Bandweg. Then follow this for 4.3km until the descent into Rittergasse along Himmelsleiter and Lutherbuche to the festival grounds and to cross the Lude. Now follow the Hirschallee for about 500m to the deer monument, then turn right into the Upper Hirschgasse and follow this for about 1km to Schloss Stollberg. Via the subsequent 200m long Parkweg, you reach Kaltes Tal where you must follow the road for about 250m until you cross Große Wilde over a small wooden bridge. From now on, follow Tannenstieg for 1.5km to Hirtengasse and reach the 300m long Kleinen Weg along the cemetery. This is followed by a 1km ascent to Alte Auerbergstraße, which you follow to Schneiderborn and then meet a paved road again after 100m. Follow this until the ascent to the Upper Bandweg. Following this for 2.3km, you can take a break at Mägdefleck until you cover another 2.1km to Thyrahöhe. There, the last 100m long curve awaits with the subsequent descent next to Thyragrotte back to the station.
