Short description

The Telegraph Cycle Path Berlin-Koblenz connects the 62 stations of the Prussian optical telegraph line Berlin-Koblenz. With the help of optical-mechanical telegraphy, messages were transmitted for state and military purposes over a distance of 587 kilometers from 1833 to 1849. In total, the transregional Telegraph Cycle Path Berlin-Koblenz covers a length of more than 1,000 kilometers. In addition to artifacts of telegraphy, sights along the route are also included.

In the Jerichow Land alone, there were four telegraph stations in Dretzel, Ziegelesdorf, Schermen, and Biederitz, which today are stages of the 73-kilometer section of the cycle path.

Description

For the telegraph line, 56 specially designed functional buildings and existing structures such as an observatory, three churches, and two mansions were used. In Biedritz, a part of Station Building No. 13 is integrated into a residential building located there today. On Kapaunberg in Schermen, where once Station No. 12 was located, an information pavilion now invites you to take a break. Information panels provide information here about the personnel of telegraph stations and their social status. Station 11 on the vineyard in Dretzel shows the replicated floor plan of the station building. A functional approximately 10-meter-high signal mast dummy can be found at Station 10 in Ziegelsdorf. In addition to two information panels, there is also a covered seating area.

Over 4,095 possible setting combinations on the signal mast system allow the display of numbers, words, syllables, and complete sentences.

There is a connector from Rietzel to Hohenseeden for the Altmark Circular Route. For the Elbe Cycle Path, the connection is made from the old railway embankment near Lostau and Alt-Lostau.
