The Mulde Cycle Path is a long-distance cycle path that runs through Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. The section of the combined Mulde leads from Dessau to Bad Düben.
The Zwickauer Mulde (also Western Mulde) is the western tributary of the Combined Mulde. It originates in the Vogtland region near Schöneck from 2 tributaries: Rote Mulde and Weiße Mulde. The Zwickauer Mulde travels 166 km until it merges with the Freiberger Mulde.
The Freiberger Mulde (also Eastern Mulde) is the eastern tributary of the Combined Mulde. It originates in Czech Republic and after about 5 km enters Germany. After a total of 124 km, the Freiberger Mulde flows into the Combined Mulde.
The confluence of the Freiberger Mulde and the Zwickauer Mulde at Sermuth forms the Combined Mulde, which flows into the Elbe River near Dessau after almost 143 km.
The route is pleasant to ride, you just need to pay attention in Friedersdorf at the Muldenstauwehr. The route runs close to the Mulde and is pleasant to ride due to the diverse landscape. Not always paved, the cycle path often goes through natural paths.
Mulde Cycle Path Bad Düben - Dessau
Bad Düben - Pouch
In Bad Düben, you actually pass by - but the Düben Castle is a wonderful photo opportunity. Once on this side, it is recommended to take the Mulde Cycle Path towards Pouch. In Pouch, the cycle path continues towards Friedersdorf, Mukdenstein, and Altjeßnitz.
If you want to explore the Goitzsche in more detail, you can use the Goitzsche Circular Path. There are several places to stop and also sights, such as the Pegelturm, the Bitterfelder Bogen.
But a detour around the Muldestausee is also possible. In the Information Center for Environment and Nature Conservation HAUS AM SEE, there is a lot to discover.
Pouch-Altjeßnitz
If you choose the main route from Pouch via Mühlbeck and Friedersdorf, you will pass by the first Book Village in Germany. A rest here is worth it. In the Book Village, there is the café Kaffeesatz. Its a café where every book lover can browse without worrying about time. Then continue through Friedersdorf, past the western part of the Muldestausee. Here the circle closes to the alternative route around the Muldestausee. The path leads through the Saalegaster Forest to Jeßnitz. From Jeßnitz, its not far to Altjeßnitz.
Altjeßnitz-Dessau
Once in Altjeßnitz, a detour to the baroque maze and estate park is worthwhile. After a short break, continue to Raguhn and then to Dessau. In northern Dessau, the Combined Mulde flows into the Elbe River. The cyclist has connection options in Dessau to other cycling routes, such as the Elbe Cycle Path or the EuroVelo R1.
