5. Saale-Unstrut: from Profen to Wetterzeube / NASA

Description

The first section of the route leads through the landscape conservation area of the municipality of Elsteraue. Follow the river upstream on the well-developed Elsterradweg past Predel, Reuden, Draschwitz, and Bornitz. At Draschwitz and Bornitz, you cross the White Elster river.

Continue to Zeitz through the district of Zangenberg. Zeitz, belonging to the Romanesque Road, is characterized by various style periods.

Worth seeing: Moritzburg Castle with the St. Peter and Paul Cathedral, castle park (part of the Garden Dreams Route of the State of Saxony-Anhalt), guided underground system Underground Zeitz, Herrmannschacht - the oldest preserved briquette factory in the world (now an industrial museum)

Continue cycling towards the destination Wetterzeube. To get there, you first pass Großosida.

Our tip: Cycling enthusiasts can take a detour to Haynsburg from the Elsterradweg. In the castle tavern, you can have a snack and visit the local museum or climb the tower.
