Description

The nature trail leads through the historically evolved cultural landscape of the Wettiner porphyry area and the adjacent Saale floodplain near Mücheln. On the approx. 2.5 km long circular path, you can explore the unique porphyry landscape and learn about the characteristics of the natural environment on information boards.

The trail runs through the nature reserve Porphyry hill landscape near Gimritz. As part of the European protected area Porphyry hill landscape northwest of Halle, it hosts a valuable vegetation mosaic including semi-dry and dry grasslands, heathlands, and traditional orchards. Rare animal and plant species still find suitable habitats here.

The landscape is characterized by the dark reddish-brown porphyry rock and the distinctive fault steps, dry valleys, and rock cliffs.

The landscape of the adjacent Saale floodplain is determined by the wide, gently curved course of the Saale river with accompanying riparian forests, reed beds, and tall herbaceous plants. The nature trail starts at the parking lot in front of the Templar Church estate in Wettin, OT Mücheln. An overview board here shows the experience area of the nature trail, the trail layout, and the locations of information boards 1-9.

These boards address a wide range of topics related to geology and landscape history, flora and fauna, soil and vegetation, as well as the witnesses of the historically evolved cultural landscape. The circular path ends back at the starting point, the Templar Church parking lot.

As the trail mostly runs through the nature reserve Porphyry landscape near Gimritz, some rules must be followed. To allow undisturbed development for wild plants and animals in nature reserves, it is not allowed to:

- leave the trails

- make noise

- light fires

- camp

- disturb animals

- capture or kill animals

- damage or remove plants or their parts

- let dogs run unleashed
