Description

In June 2021, the SRzG organized its first Walkshop Walk for the Future - Climate from Dessau to Berlin.1 One sub-project, the establishment of a climate path between Dessau and Brück, could not be completed in the summer due to delivery difficulties with the granite steles. On November 11, 2021, it was finally done: the steles were anchored in the ground at various waypoints. The now materialized Climate Stele Path has the potential to encourage the local population, especially school classes, to hike and reflect on the future of the climate. Long-distance hikers and tourists can also plan to visit one or more steles. For climate initiatives in the region, the Stele Path provides connections to local environmental and climate projects.

Metal plates are attached to the steles, displaying various demands for ambitious climate policies as well as QR codes.

4. Reduce personal CO2 emissions to 1.5t per year.

Through the QR codes, hikers can access the Walk for the Future website of the SRzG and gain access to various future letters. Linked to the corresponding stele demand, the letters describe a positive and a negative scenario of environmental and climate changes and their effects on future living conditions. The letters are written from the perspective of ten-year-old Berlin children from the year 2070, who report to present readers about their lives.

Directions

The steles are on average 18.3 km apart as the crow flies. How hikers cover the distance between the steles is up to them. There are no trail markings on trees or elsewhere. In this respect, finding the four steles is comparable to geocaching, where one searches for points of which one knows either the address or only the coordinates.
