Bauhaus Tour

Short description

For friends of Bauhaus architecture, the Bauhaus tour was developed as a circular tour, covering approximately 17 km through the Dessau urban area. Passing by Bauhaus and Masters Houses (UNESCO World Heritage), it goes to the Kornhaus and to Dessau-South in the Gropius settlement Dessau-Törten.

Description

The Bauhaus tour takes interested individuals on a 17 km route through the preserved architectural landmarks of the Bauhaus era. In the northwest of Dessau, you can see the Bauhaus building and the Masters Houses, while in the south of the city lies the Törten settlement, as an example of Bauhaus architecture. Other landmarks include the excursion restaurant Kornhaus designed by Carl Fieger directly on the Elbe and the former employment office by Walter Gropius, reminiscent of an industrial building.

North Route (8.5 km)

Dessau main station - via Bitterfelder Straße to UCI cinema - turn left here over the station bridge - right at Parkstraße - straight to the zoo - through the Red and White Arches to Georgenallee - on Georgenallee to Elbpavillon - turn right here to Kornhaus - south on Elballee - left on Ebertallee - Masters Houses - roundabout Sieben Säulen - Gropiusallee to Bauhausplatz - left to Bauhaus - Bauhausstraße to Seminarplatz - left to pedestrian area of the Employment Agency - continue to Antoinettentraße - right over the station bridge to Bitterfelder Straße - right to main station or via Fritz-Hesse-Straße to South Route.

The North Route is signposted and passable in both directions.

South Route (13.5 km)

Dessau main station - via Fritz-Hesse-Straße (past Anhaltisches Theater) to Willy-Lohmann-Straße - turn right here and follow the main road to Askanische Straße - continue straight to the former employment office - along Mauerstraße to Friedhofstraße - left to Franzstraße - turn right here in a southerly direction along Heidestraße - cross at the DVG Heidestraße tram stop (traffic lights) - continue south to Peterholzstraße - turn left to the Laubengang houses - left to In der Flanke street - right to Damaschkestraße - past the Konsumgebäude to Mittelring - left to Moses Mendelssohn-Zentrum - left to Querweg - right over Kleinring and Doppelreihe to Südstraße - right to Stahlhaus - continue on Südstraße to pedestrian traffic light Ludwigshafener Straße - along Ludwigshafener Straße and the Mulde to the height of Tiergartenbrücke (arch bridge) - left over the federal road and Lustgarten to the city center - right at Marienkirche - left at Rathaus to Ratsgasse - past Hauptpost to Antoinettenstraße - right to Bitterfelder Straße (UCI cinema) - left to main station or straight to North Route.

The South Route is signposted only in the described direction.
