From Bad Grund passing by the Albert Tower and the Kuckholz Cliff with a magnificent view towards Lerbach.
The BaudenSteig trail passes numerous Bauden (hiking lodges) and provides the hiker with a light daypack. The trail starts in Bad Grund. The diverse history of the Harz spa and holiday resort Bad Grund is closely linked to the Iberg Limestone Massif. Iron ores were mined until the year 1885. In the mid-1980s, the healing tunnel therapy began. Unique to the Harz is also the Exotic Forest WeltWald Harz. 600 tree species from all over the world grow in a park-like forest covering around 100 hectares. It is the most significant facility of its kind in Europe. Bad Grund also has plenty to offer for children, such as the Fairy Tale Valley, where each fairy tale house and all fairy tale characters were handmade. A special feature is the Cave Experience Centre Iberg Tropfsteinhöhle. Even a snowball fight in summer is possible - with snow from former glacial pots. Plenty of reasons to spend a day in Bad Grund before tackling the first stage of the BaudenSteig from Bad Grund to Lerbach. It is the longest stage, but there is enough time for a stop at the Albert Tower, the first lodge on the BaudenSteig.
The starting point is Hübichplatz in the center of Bad Grund (S). Go uphill along Hübichweg and turn right towards Hotel Waldhaus. The path becomes narrower and enters the forest. Turn sharply left at the rest bench until reaching the intersection at the town sign. Cross the street and follow the right side of the houses. Pass through the impressive Devils Valley, past the healing tunnel and Fairy Tale Valley. Carefully cross B242, follow along the entrance of the Cave Experience Centre (1). From here, continue uphill on a wide gravel path, turn left at the next intersection. After a distinctive rock, continue to the right. Hike on the Adelbert-Bösche-Stieg to a timber storage area. Take the next left opportunity. Follow a narrow path to Bismarckklippe. Above, the path meets a wide forest road, turn left here and then right after about 500m, directly towards Albert Tower. The 33m high tower offers a view extending to Thuringia. The lodge invites for a stop (2). Continue on a wide gravel path to the left, soon a narrow path branches off to the right. Descend until reaching the Schweinebraten intersection (3). Continue on forest roads towards Taternplatz. Cross B242, then head to Gewitterplatz. Here, slightly left downhill, passing by the Köte Kaysereiche (4). Straight ahead to Lasfelder Tränke (5) (rest benches and memorial stone). Turn left uphill to the parking lot at Prinzenteich. At the end of the second parking lot, take the path into the forest. Cross a wooden footbridge at the lakes shore, then right over the dam. After the dam, turn right uphill, soon offering a clear view over the entire Prinzenteich (6). Return to B242. Cross the street, follow the meadow path until a wide gravel path leads to the right. Take the first left opportunity and at the end of the road, continue straight towards the forest. Follow the path until a shelter appears to the right. The lookout tower Kuckholzklippe (7) is on the right - fantastic view. Descend briefly steeply (be cautious in wet conditions). Follow the wide gravel path to the right until reaching the street. Then head towards Lerbach (8). The official path descends through steps in the forest, continuously downwards towards the village. An alternative: about 150m to the left to the Clara Höhe viewpoint pavilion with a beautiful view of Lerbach, and descend on a wide path into the village. Order a well-deserved after-work beer. Look forward to the hour of arrival!
