Description

The Garden Dreams consist of 50 historical parks and gardens in Saxony-Anhalt, describing the history of garden art and various types of gardens.

Start your cycling tour in Magdeburg and ride along the waterway junction to Burg with its four former garden show areas. Learn along your way who was the inspiration for Theodor Fontanes Effi Briest and visit the late Romanesque Jerichow Monastery. The route continues through Bismarcks birthplace Schönhausen to Tangermünde with its medieval-looking cityscape. On your way back, discover Briest with its Renaissance castle and landscape park, as well as Tangerhütte with its city park. End your journey in Magdeburg with a visit to the Elbauenpark.

Route Description

Day 2

Magdeburg - Burg (approx. 34 km)

Leave Magdeburg through Herrenkrugpark and soon reach Hohenwarthe. A stop at the impressive waterway junction and Europes longest trough bridge is worthwhile. Pass the Hohenwarthe double lock, where ships are sluiced about 18 meters down into the Elbe-Havel Canal.

Continue cycling along the Elbe-Havel Canal to Burg. In 2018, the State Garden Show Saxony-Anhalt took place in Burg. As part of this event, several smaller park areas were upgraded in terms of content and appearance, such as the Goethepark, Flickschupark, Weinberg, and Ihlegärten.
