Circular route Foundation Forest Blankenburg (Harz)

Short description

The forest around Blankenburg is extensively covered with deciduous trees such as beeches and oaks. This is an important feature for designating it as a National Natural Heritage, as areas with contiguous deciduous forest stands are rare in Germany and require protection and preservation.

Description

On the circular path, you have the opportunity to get to know a small part of the forest and its peculiarities better. The route is about 2 km long and can be easily walked. Along the way, 5 stations with special viewpoints and informative facts invite you to observe and read.

Follow signpost No. 4 on the red flower petal.

The starting point is at the intersection behind the Grand Castle. You can best reach there by parking at Schnappelberg and walking through the chestnut tree alley in the direction of the Grand Castle.

Here is the first information board. First, walk on the wide Dukes Path through the beech forest and learn a lot of interesting information about the forest. Turning right, you will leave the Dukes Path and at the water house, you will encounter the slate mountain, which you follow downhill towards the city. Opposite the Pension & Café Benz, the short hike conveniently leads back to the Grand Castle on the road to the right.
