The Börde Cycle Path - from the Elbe Cycle Path on the Old Elbe in Magdeburg through the Magdeburger Börde to the Aller-Harz Cycle Path in Oschersleben
Börde Cycle Path through the Magdeburger Börde
The Börde is a fertile lowland in northern Germany. Several landscapes in Germany are referred to as Börde. There is the Magdeburger Börde, the Hildesheim Börde, the Hellwegbörde (Soester Börde, Geseker Börde Werl-Unnaer Börde), the Jülich-Zülpicher-Börde (Zülpicher Börde, Jülicher Börde, Erkelenzer Börde), the Warburger Börde, and the Heberbörde.
The Magdeburger Börde refers to the Börde landscape in Saxony-Anhalt. Bordered to the west by the state border with Lower Saxony, it extends eastward to the Elbe. To the north, it borders the Drömling and the Altmark. South of the Börde lie the Harz and the Harz Foreland, the Mansfeld Land, and the river landscape of the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve.
The Börde landscape is gently undulating and has fertile soils, mainly used for growing sugar beets and wheat. The Magdeburger Börde is in the rain shadow of the Harz, making it one of the driest regions in Germany. The highest elevation is the Großer Wartberg (145.7 m) near Niederndodeleben. In the Magdeburger Börde, Bördeplatt is still often spoken.
The Börde Cycle Path through the Magdeburger Börde connects the Elbe Cycle Path on the Old Elbe in Magdeburg with the Aller-Harz Cycle Path in Oschersleben.
The Börde Cycle Path is slightly hilly and mostly runs on agricultural roads, which are mostly well-developed but in some parts are only paved with concrete slabs.
In Magdeburg, you first ride on cycle paths alongside roads over the Elbe bridges to the city center. Behind the main station and up to the district of Diesdorf, you can always enjoy a nice ride along the Schrote. Between Diesdorf and Hohendodeleben, there is a gravel path in some places, and from Ottersleben onward, a cycle path alongside the road.
