Short description

Glass &: Hüttenmuseum Wieda - Borntal - Käsebergblick - Kreuztalsklippe (stamp 162) - Cuerskopfweg - Schulstraße - Am Kreuztal - Glass &: Hüttenmuseum

Description

A short, easy tour with wonderful views over Wieda starts from the Glass &: Hüttenmuseum through Borntal. Then it continues on the eastern winter hiking trail to Käsebergblick. From here, you proceed to the stamp location Kreuztalsklippe (stamp 162), where you can also enjoy a breathtaking view over Wieda, and from the Hans-Peters-Hütte it goes back downhill through Schulstraße and Hauptstraße Am Kreuztal back to the starting point.

Directions

The hike starts in the village of Wieda. The starting and ending point is the Glass &: Hüttenmuseum on Otto-Haberlandt-Straße. Opposite the museum, you enter Borntal, a part of the Harzer Baudensteig. Follow this path until it transitions into the eastern winter hiking trail. Stay on this path until you reach Käsebergblick. The bell tower of Wieda was built on Käseberg. Since Wieda is located in a valley and the church bells wouldnt be heard throughout the village, the bell tower was not built directly at the church but on the opposite Käseberg. From Käsebergblick, continue to Kreuztalsklippe, a rock formation northeast of the spa town Wieda. Here, you have an equally beautiful and breathtaking view of the entire upper village of Wieda and Käseberg. Freshly stamped (stamp 162) and possibly refreshed, the shelter invites you to take a short break, then continue past Hans-Peters-Hütte down the Cuerskopfweg. At the intersection with Schulstraße, turn right onto Schulstraße. Continue along Hauptstraße Am Kreutal back to the starting point at the Glass &: Hüttenmuseum.

Directions

Coming from Bad Sachsa or Walkenried, turn left on Otto-Haberlandt-Straße and coming from Hohegeiß or Braunlage, turn right into the parking lot at the Glass &: Hüttenmuseum, the former town hall.

Parking information

Parking lot at the Glass &: Hüttenmuseum, Otto-Haberlandt-Straße 49, in the former Wieda town hall (accessible via the side entrance on the south wing).
