Short description

A tour through the most beautiful Elbe landscapes of the Altmark. The tour is always accompanied by the silhouettes of the Hanseatic city of Tangermünde and the mighty church towers of the monastery church in Jerichow.

Description

Starting from Tangermünde, we travel through the meadow landscape of the Tanger-Elbe lowlands upstream. We pass through the biosphere reserve without any incline until we reach Buch. Here, we can visit the NABU Info Center.

We continue through Schelldorf to Grieben.

After Grieben, we reach the ferry and enjoy crossing the Elbe.

Through Ferchland, we arrive at the old arms of the Elbe and further to Jerichow, where we can visit the monastery or strengthen ourselves at the inn by the monastery.

Now, the last part begins, downstream along the Elbe until we reach the street bridge over the Elbe, through which we return to the Hanseatic city of Tangermünde.

Directions

You depart from the marketplace onto Kirchstraße and find yourself on the Elbe Cycle Path heading north. At the edge of town, you continue on the road-side cycle path over the bridge to the other side of the Elbe. After about 2 km, you descend stairs to the south and follow the path towards Fischbeck. In the village, you turn right onto the main street. At the edge of town, the Mühlenweg leads you onto the Altmark round course. Following this, you reach Jerichow along the dike. Passing the monastery, you continue on Karl-Liebknecht-Str. through the village towards Genthin. At the edge of town, the Altmark round course on the right takes you from Klietznick to Ferchland. Here, you take the ferry to Grieben. Along Elbstraße, you reach the village. At the intersection Bittkauer Weg, the Elbe Cycle Path turns right towards Friedensstraße heading north. Following the Elbe Cycle Path, you reach Schelldorf and after another 3.6 km, the village of Buch. At the church by the Elbelandmuseum, you turn right onto Bucher Kirchstraße. At the edge of town, the Elbe Cycle Path returns you to the Elbe dike. Here, on the left, you return back to Tangermünde.
