Short description

The lower part of the Havel cycle path leads from Rathenow through the Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve, passing by fishing villages and charming towns, to the Hanseatic city of Havelberg, a pearl among the Hanseatic cities in Germany.

Description

We accompany the Havel on its last river kilometers from Rathenow to the Hanseatic city of Havelberg, located on an island in the Havel.

Just before Schollene, we reach Altmark, the cradle of Prussia and one of the most beautiful cultural and natural landscapes in Germany. Fishing villages like Warnau and the charming town of Garz with its brick buildings alternate with natural landscapes of the lower Havel and the nearby Elbe in the Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve.

Well-developed cycle paths and farm roads lead us through Kuhlhausen and Jederitz until we can catch the first glimpse of the magnificent cathedral of the Hanseatic city of Havelberg. The city of Havelberg on an island, the House of Rivers, and the cathedral built over 850 years ago are sights worth visiting.

Those who want to see the mouth of the Havel into the Elbe can cycle the 19 kilometers to Gnevsdorf, where the Havel flows into the Elbe.

Route description

From Rathenow, the route goes through Steckelsdorf, Göttlin, and Grütz to the Altmark region. We reach Schollene and continue to Molkenberg, with its large church with a high tower as the landmark of the town.

Through the low-lying areas of the Havel and past the many old arms of the Havel, we reach Warnau, situated on a small hill.

Shortly after, we pass through the charming Garz and continue through Kuhlhausen and Jederitz towards the Hanseatic city of Havelberg.

For those who want to see the mouth of the Havel into the Elbe, the route continues between the Elbe and the Havel to Gnevsdorf.
