Description

You can start the tour downstream on the Elbe Cycle Path in Bohemia or with a detour to Prague and then along the Vltava to its confluence with the Labe (Elbe). Depending on the route chosen, about 1300 km by bike to the estuary in the North Sea. In Germany, the approximately 860 km long cycling journey on the Elbe Cycle Path begins in the Saxon Switzerland, at the foot of the bizarre rock formations of the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. Via Pirna and through gentle hilly countryside, you reach the art and cultural city of Dresden and from there continue to Meißen and Torgau. The middle section of the Elbe Cycle Path leads through picturesque landscapes to noteworthy UNESCO World Heritage Sites to Lutherstadt Wittenberg and Dessau-Roßlau, and to the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt, Magdeburg, with the first Gothic cathedral on German soil. Through extensive floodplain landscapes, the route continues to Tangermünde and Wittenberge. The approximately 330 km long northern section of the Elbe Cycle Path reveals further fascinating insights into nature and leads you via the metropolis of Hamburg to the mouth of the Elbe into the North Sea at Cuxhaven.

Due to the slight gradient, the Elbe Cycle Path can be comfortably ridden upstream and downstream. Due to the prevailing north-western wind direction, we recommend planning the tour upstream. Only the upper section, the source of the Elbe, should be ridden downstream.
