Short description

For a long time we will keep the beautiful city view of the Hanseatic city of Havelberg in our minds during our journey south through forests, heath, and the wide Elbe lowlands to the beautiful small town of Genthin.

Description

We do not leave Genthin along the Elbe but drive through forests and heath on the edge of the Elbe lowlands towards the south. The Elbe is still present far from its current course, inviting us to rest at the old water arms in Kamern and to swim in the summer.

We continue along the slope of the Elbe valley towards Wulkow. Here we leave the Elbe valley and drive through Klitsche to the place with the name from 1001 nights: Zabakuk.

After a break in the zoo or the tourist center by the lake, the journey continues on the last section of this stage to Genthin.

In Genthin, we can recover from the long tour with an ice cream on the town hall square.

Directions

We leave Havelberg and follow the signs of the Altmark round course and the node point signage towards Kamern.

In Kamern, we first ride a stretch towards Wulkau on the bike path, but after a few meters, we leave the road-side bike path and turn south towards Schönfeld.

Now we follow the bike path along the federal road in the area of the military training area (searching for alternatives is pointless) until Kliez.

Now we continue on small paths and roads to the Elbe slope, which we reach through Hohengören Damm and Schönhausen Damm to Wust and Wolkow.

We leave the Elbe valley and drive through Altenklitsche and Habakuk into the city of Genthin.

More information

During midday, it is often hot in the Elbe lowlands. Therefore, dare to set off early in the summer.

Safety instructions

The Altmark round course is as always well signposted and does not pose any hazards.

Equipment

A good bike and something to drink for the long, quite lonely stage.
