Short Description

The most beautiful section of the Elbe Cycle Route takes us from Wittenberge to the Hanseatic and Imperial City of Tangermünde through the Altmark region. Both cities are easily accessible by train.

Description

The Elbe Cycle Route is a classic among German river cycle paths, and the section in the Altmark region is something very special. It takes us through two Hanseatic cities, Werben and Tangermünde, past the oldest Romanesque church north of the Alps and through the most beautiful river landscapes of the Elbe. Starting and ending points are easily reachable by bike and train. This route condenses the Elbe Cycle Route adventure into a day trip.
After just a few meters, we cross the Elbe from Wittenberge to the left bank of the Elbe Cycle Route. We simply follow the Elbe southwards until we are greeted by the mighty city walls of the Hanseatic city of Tangermünde and its Gothic brick buildings. Here, we end the tour in the historic city center.
Along the way, we find Romanesque churches and the smallest of the German Hanseatic cities, the Hanseatic city of Werben.

The Elbe meadows with their storks and natural landscapes continue to enchant us time and time again, and we enjoy the ride without any inclines.
