Short Description
The path initially leads through the landscape conservation area on Lahberg and then reaches Orxhausen in the Gandetal. From there, it goes through the forest on the south side of Wadenberg back to the city.
Description
Before the path reaches our first destination, the Lahberg landscape conservation area, it offers the opportunity to get to know a little about the historic old town of Bad Gandersheim. From Lahberg, the view then sweeps over the typical, gently rolling cultural landscape of the Harz foothills. From here, you can already see our next destination, the small village of Orxhausen. It is located picturesquely on the Gande, which meanders through the valley in many loops. After leaving the village, the path climbs a bit on the edge of the forest to Wadenberg. Before we immerse ourselves in the forest, its worth taking a look back to enjoy the beautiful long-distance view. Initially through the magnificent deciduous forest and later through the fields, our route soon reaches the city again.
Directions
The path starts behind the information board on Hildesheimer Straße. It initially follows the hiking signs of RW 5 in the proposed hiking direction until the edge of the nearby parking lot. Before the small Gande bridge, we keep right, cross Roswithastraße, and quickly reach Hildesheimer Straße through a small park. Here, continue left towards the center. Across the marketplace, you will reach Moritzstraße, which turns into Northeimer Straße after the railway underpass. Follow this upwards until a narrow path leads to Lahberg on the right. The hiking signs then lead us to a bridge that crosses the federal road. Just behind the bridge, a scenic field path starts on the right, which we follow to the next fork. Keep right and hike on a grassy path through the beautiful dry grassland area Lahberg. A little later, our path meets Neue Straße, which we follow to the left to a small group of houses. In front of the buildings, our path turns right, bypasses the houses in a wide left curve, and, always accompanied by the railway line, reaches Orxhausen. At the beginning of the village, we stay right and follow the village street to the railway crossing, then immediately cross over to Grüner Jäger via B 64. There is an opportunity to stop at Dervish in Grüner Jäger (
www.gasthausdervish.com). Those who prefer a break in the green should use the diverse sports and leisure facilities of the pretty village for a rest. After the break, continue up to the forest at Grüner Jäger on a path that soon meets a forest road, which we follow to the right out of the forest. At the next fork, you can choose. Those who follow the signs of RW 6 will reach their destination via the idyllic floodplain of Mahmilch and the magnificent Cluswald. The path will be a bit longer but much more varied than RW 5. Those who opt for the actual path can continue straight ahead and reach the starting point quickly, but not very spectacularly. © T. u. H. Schrader
