On the Elbe Cycle Path to Wörlitz

Short description

From Lutherstadt Wittenberg, the Wörlitz Park is an ideal destination for a day trip. Since the Elbe Cycle Path is signposted on both sides of the river, you can take a beautiful circular tour and also visit the town of Coswig (Anhalt) on the edge of the Fläming Nature Park.

Directions

The circular tour starts at the marketplace of Lutherstadt Wittenberg. From here, follow the very good signposting of the Elbe Cycle Path over the Elbe Bridge to Pratau. This leads directly behind the levees through the Elbe meadows until you can already see the first outskirts of the Garden Realm Dessau-Wörlitz from afar.

After around 20 km, you reach the town and park of Wörlitz. Here, there are numerous opportunities to spend the day - guided tours or gondola rides through the park grounds, a coffee break at Café Eichenkranz, or climbing the Bible Tower in St. Petri Church. The return journey on the left bank of the Elbe is via the Coswig ferry. Directly on the Elbe is the beautiful excursion destination Elbterassen. From the Elbe, you have a great view of Coswig Castle. Also located at the marketplace is the Nature Park Information Center of the Fläming Nature Park with further tips for cycling and hiking tours in the region. Away from the car roads, the Elbe Cycle Path now leads back through the Elbe meadows until you pass by the Piesteritz factory settlement on the outskirts of Wittenberg. Together with the course of the Elbe, you cycle back into the center of Wittenberg and pass by the Castle Church with the world-famous Theses Door, returning to the marketplace.
