The route leads along many memorial plaques where you can learn a lot about the history and special features of the city of Kalbe (Milde).

Description

The over 1000-year-old history of the Milde town can be wonderfully explored on this walk. Take some time to visit the castle grounds or the picturesque old town with its many half-timbered houses.

Directions

You start directly at St. Nicholas Church, where you will find the first memorial plaque at the entrance. Behind the church is the Concordia Oak with another plaque. Now turn left into Rathausstraße and follow it for a while until you reach a small passage to the Milde on the right side. Walk a short distance along the Milde on the left until you reach the white rampart at the outdoor pool. Leave the outdoor pool on the left and follow the white rampart. When you reach Straße der Jugend, turn right and pass by the MEDIAN Clinic, a large rehabilitation facility in the region. Continue along Straße der Jugend and you will now reach Goßler Castle. Here you will find another memorial plaque. Right at the castle is the largest baroque boxwood garden in the region. A visit is worth it! Now walk the same way back until you reach the hiking base on the right just before the clinic. This is located directly at the moat of the castle. Follow the path to the right around the moat until you reach the entrance to the castle grounds. A visit to the local history museum and the Hausmann Tower is worthwhile here. On the castle grounds, you will find another memorial plaque. Leave the castle grounds and follow Stendaler Straße to the corner of Gartenstraße. 2 ice cream shops invite you to visit! Then turn right into Gartenstraße and pass by the carp pond and waterfall. Follow the street until you arrive at Kastanienweg on the left. On the right side, you will see the cultural center where the city library is located and many events take place in the large hall. At the end of the road, turn left into the old Bahnhofstraße and arrive at the intersection at Denkmalsplatz. Here too, there is another memorial plaque. Continue along Ernst-Thälmann-Straße and then turn right into Schukstraße. Passing an electronics store, you will reach the primary school. A little further on is the town hall with the tourist information office. You can find information on the memorial plaques at both buildings. Go back and turn right at the intersection onto Westpromenade. Right on the Milde, there is a small alley on the left side (opposite the red rampart) that leads you to the old town. Turn right onto Gerichtsstraße. Here you will pass by the office of the artist city. At the end of the street, turn left and you will be back at the starting point

Travel Information

Coming from the north or south via the B71, turn towards Wernstedt, then continue to Kalbe (Milde).

Coming from Stendal via Bismark, Neuendorf am Damm to Kalbe (Milde).

Parking Information

Parking spaces are available on the roadside in the old town.
