Neckarsteig: Etappe Eberbach - Neunkirchen

At 18 km, the Eberbach-Neunkirchen stage is the most challenging of the Neckarsteig.

The Breitenstein is the local mountain of Eberbach. The "Neckarsteig" and the "Eberbacher Pfad der Flussgeschichte" unite here to form a hiking trail equipped with informative educational boards.

Here you can learn in an impressive way how the Neckar has carved its way over millions of years. The orchards on the Breitenstein also offer a wealth of flora and fauna.

The Ernst-Hohn-Pavillon, a refuge on the Schollerbuckel, is a unique vantage point. The Neckarsteig trail leads to the so-called Teufelskanzel on narrow paths in beautiful mixed woodland. From there, you can see the Rockenau quarry and the lock.

At Rockenau lock, the Neckarsteig changes sides of the river. The ruined castle of Stolzeneck was built around 1200 and was given as a fief to servants of the Palatine Counts from 1284. After 1610, the castle and the associated castle hamlet of Krösselbach were abandoned.

You pass through almost alpine terrain in the Wilder Waibelsberg or Krösselbacher Hang area. Surefootedness is required here.

The Reihersee was originally built as a feeding lake for herons. Today it is a beautiful resting place with a refuge.

The tranquil village of Neunkirchen has a full range of food and drink for hikers with its cooperative-run citizens' market.
