Description by the author

From the "holy" mountain via the "old" mountain through the Schäfer and Lippach valleys to the Danube

Highlights:
Alter Berg (nature reserve), Schäfertal /Schäferbrunnen, Allenspacher Hof/Hoflinde,
Lippachmühle, Lippachtal, Triebhalde nature reserve, historic old town of Mühlheim//Donau with Vorderes Schloss museum, night watchman tour

This stage takes you across the Alb plateau to the Danube - the scenery up here is uniquely beautiful. The area around the "Alter Berg" near Böttingen in particular, with its sheep and juniper heaths, offers a fantastic landscape paired with a panorama that reaches as far as the Säntis and Mont Blanc on clear days. The round chapel - a Josefskapelle - is a real gem. Incidentally, at 911-991 m above sea level, Böttingen was the highest municipality in the former state of Württemberg.Through the Schäfertal valley to the cool "Grauentalquelle" spring with barbecue area and wetland biotope and from there via the Allenspacher Hof into the Lippach valley. "The Lippach Thal is narrow, rocky, covered with forest and offers very picturesque sections!" according to a description by the Oberamt Tuttlingen in 1879. Even today, it is a very natural valley, and is a real gem, especially when the spring snowflakes are in bloom. Past the "Glatter Felsen" viewpoint and steeply downhill, you reach the "Lippachmühle" (be sure to stop for a bite to eat!).

The castle and town of Mühlheim/Danube are situated high on a promontory 40 meters above the Danube valley and give the rare impression of a medieval townscape that has hardly been disturbed by modern settlements. And perhaps you will have the opportunity to enjoy a guided tour of the medieval upper town with the Mühlheim night watchman in the evening. Please also note the current information (see safety information below)
