Schurwald-Radroute

Explore the heights of the Schurwald around Aichwald in a sporty way.

The starting point of this tour is the train station Beutelsbach, before the trail leads directly to Schnait and then continues through all Aichwald districts on the Schurwald, a forested mountain range that stretches from the Kappelberg just outside Stuttgart to the east and roughly as far as Hohenstaufen.

Once you have made the steep ascent to the heights, you will reach a signpost to the "Karlstein" monument in Aichelberg. The approximately four-kilometre detour is not only worthwhile in fine weather to enjoy a wonderful view over the Rems Valley, but also offers numerous beautiful views of the orchards that are so typical of the region.

In the next village, it is worth visiting the tiny Krummhardter Kirchlein, one of the prettiest churches in the district of Esslingen, before heading downhill via Lobenrot - a 1.5 km detour to Sculpture Avenue "Couples" - into the charming little half--timbered village of Strümpfelbach. Before following the route back to the starting point, it is worth stopping off at a typical Besen (note special opening times!) or visiting the Beutelsbacher Stiftskirche at the end of the tour, once the family burial place of the early Württemberger noble family.
