Hohenurachsteig

The landmark of the town of Bad Urach - the Hohenurach castle ruins - is the highlight of the hike. The fantastic views from the Hanner cliffs increase the anticipation. And the path through the lush green mixed forests rounds off the hiking experience.

The Hohenurachsteig leads us along varied paths through the beautiful landscape of the Swabian Alb UNESCO biosphere reserve. The circular hike starts with a challenging climb up to the Hanner Felsen rocks. There we are rewarded with unique views over the city and the hilly landscape of the Swabian Alb.We continue along narrow forest paths and a meadow path to the Eppenzill rocks, where we discover the Urach waterfall and the ruins of Hohenurach castle in the distance. From the highest point of the hike, we descend on a narrow path along the edge of the slope to the Kreuzhütte, a small hiker's hut. To reach our next waypoint, the ruins of Hohenurach Castle, we cross the saddle and climb the final ascent to the 692 m high Schlossberg. There are numerous nooks and crannies to explore on the old Hohenurach castle ruins. -Not to mention the fascinating views...
