Description by the author

Along the old Roman frontier, the cycle route leads through four federal states. Numerous sights and museums with exhibits from Roman times await along the way.

The Limes Cycle Route is marked throughout all four federal states with brown signs bearing the association's logo - a Limes tower surrounded by the letters "D" and "L". Like the German Limes Road, the cycle path also follows the Upper German-Rhaetian Limes and connects numerous sights from Roman times.History-loving cyclists can look forward to reconstructed Limes watchtowers, preserved and partially reconstructed forts, protective structures over the ruins of Roman baths, fortifications with ramparts, ditches and palisades and, of course, impressive museums. There are attractive towns along the route as well as renowned spa and recreation centers. The German Limes Cycle Route also offers plenty of scenic variety.Course

Starting at the Rhine, it leads through the Rhine-Westerwald Nature Park, the Lahn Valley, Nassauer Land, the Rheingau-Taunus district, the Hochtaunus Nature Park, the Wetterau, the Main Valley and the Odenwald. On the way through the Swabian-Franconian Forest, the route passes through HeilbronnerLand. There it crosses the Kocher-Jagst cycle path, which is certified with four stars. The route continues across the Swabian Alb, the New Franconian Lake District and the Altmühltal Nature Park all the way to the Danube.

As the Romans did not have today's cyclists in mind when building the route, you can expect some hilly sections that will challenge your athletic ambitions. The effort will be rewarded by the cultural diversity that the cycle route has to offer. And the entire route can also be divided into smaller sections and stops can be made along the way, as the towns offer excellent accommodation and fine dining.
