Description by the author

The "wine stage" on the Burgenstraße - through the Neckar Valley and the wine town of Heilbronn in the Weinsberg Valley to Lake Breitenau.

A highlight on this stage of the Burgenstraße cycle route is the historic imperial palace of Bad Wimpfen and the Bad Wimpfen monastery in the valley. The historic imperial palace is a listed building in its entirety and you can immerse yourself in the past on a guided tour of the town.

Below the historic old town, the Bad Wimpfen Monastery with its impressive collegiate church is located directly on the Neckar. As a Bett+Bike host, the monastery invites you to stay overnight in a special ambience.

In Bad Friedrichshall, a short detour to the historic village of Kochendorf with its three "castles" is well worthwhile.

Neckarsulm, the next town on the route, is primarily known as an automotive location. Neckarsulm Castle is home to the German Bicycle and NSU Museum, an impressive collection on the history of bicycles, motorcycles and the NSU company.

In Heilbronn, the Burgenstraße cycle route leaves the Neckar valley and leads into the center of the wine town on the river. The ensemble of the Kilianskirche church, Deutschhof courtyard and the historic Heilbronn town hall bear witness to the city's eventful history. The Neckar Mile stretches right along the waterfront with numerous restaurants and bars, inviting you to take a break.

At the entrance to the Weinsberg Valley, the Burguine Weibertreu sits enthroned on its castle hill. The way up is worth a detour from the cycle route in several ways. The circular wine and rose trail accompanies the ascent. From the castle grounds, there are great views on all sides - of the route in the Neckar valley and the upcoming section in the Weinsberg valley.

At the end of the valley - not directly on the Burgenstraße cycle route, but definitely worth a detour - the Löwenstein castle ruins rise up as an imposing vantage point high above Breitenauer See lake.
