Description by the author

Due to its hillside location on the northern shore of Lake Constance, Überlingen's old town is criss-crossed by numerous inclines and steps, which do not always make it easy for guests with mobility impairments to get to know the town. We have put together a barrier-free tour that leads to the most important historical sights and Überlingen's gardens without steps or major inclines.

From Landungsplatz, which was built in the 19th century as a reception area for people arriving by boat. From the Landungsplatz, which was created in the 19th century as a reception area for guests arriving by ship, with the famous fountain "Der Bodenseereiter" by sculptor Peter Lenk, the circular route takes you past the former municipal trading and grain house, the Greth, with restaurants, stores, a cinema and a market hall to the Fauler Pelz with Städtische Galerie. The former ballroom creates a charming ambience for changing exhibitions. The exhibition rooms can be reached via an elevator at the rear of the building (advance booking required).Further along the promenade, you will reach the Hofstatt, Überlingen's market square, where the weekly market takes place on Wednesdays and Saturdays, via the Mantelhafen and Münsterstraße. A winding ramp leads past the town hall on the right to today's main entrance. The late Gothic council chamber with its magnificent carvings can only be reached via a staircase. Directly opposite is the Münster St. Nikolaus, a five-nave basilica that is the largest Gothic church building on Lake Constance. The town model, which shows Überlingen around 1800, can also be found between the town hall and the cathedral.

The path continues along Pfarrhofstraße to Franziskanerstraße. Cross this and then turn into Steinhausgasse. After a small bend, you pass the Auferstehungskirche, Christophstraße, Jakob-Kessenring-Straße and Grabenstraße to the Badgarten with its valuable trees, Capuchin church and Kursaal. Between the Bad-Hotel and the Capuchin Church, the path leads along Christophstraße to the entrance of the Stadtgarten, one of the most important botanical sights on Lake Constance with its giant trees, imposing cacti, romantic rose garden and exotic plants.

On reaching the western end of the Stadtgarten, you cross Bahnhofstrasse and return via Gondelehafen to the Uferpromenade and the landing stage.
