Überlingen erkunden: Stadtrundgang 2

We have put together two tours for you that are varied and give you an overview of the city at the same time. As an extension to tour 1, tour 2 gives you an insight into further testimonies to our history.

At the Landungsplatz, which was created in the 19th century as a reception area for guests arriving by ship, you will find Peter Lenk's famous fountain "Der Bodenseereiter". From there, the circular route leads past the former municipal trading and grain store, the Greth, which today houses restaurants, stores, a cinema and a market hall.

Further on, you will reach the Faulen Pelz with the Städtische Galerie. The former ballroom provides a charming setting for changing exhibitions. You then cross the Hofstatt to the City Hall with its late Gothic council chamber and magnificent carvings. Directly opposite is the Münster St. Nikolaus (1350 - 1586), a five-aisled basilica that is the largest Gothic church building on Lake Constance. Between the town hall and the cathedral is also a model of the town showing Überlingen around 1800.

Passing the Town Archives, you reach the Reichlin-von-Meldegg House with the Town Museum. In the patrician palace built in 1462 with its magnificent baroque ballroom, the museum shows permanent and annually changing special exhibitions. From the Franziskanerkirche, the path leads along Wiestorstraße to the Suso-Haus, one of the oldest town houses in southern Germany, with a freely accessible "Garden of Silence".

Passing the St. Jodok-Kirche and the Aufkircher Tor gate, you reach the Stadtgraben. The former city fortifications now form a green belt around the old town. A detour takes you through the City Garden before you return to the riverside promenade via the Church of the Resurrection.
