Description by the author

Under the motto "Three places - one trail", the Kluftern circular trail connects the Friedrichshafen sub-districts of Efrizweiler, Kluftern and Lipbach. It is laid out in the form of a figure eight with a north and south loop and includes an art trail, a planet trail, a history trail and a nature trail.

The planet trail starts at Kluftern elementary school (Markdorfer Str. 97) and ends at Neptun (Lettenstraße, near Lettenhof). It mainly runs along the northern circuit. The deviation is in Lipbach between St. Lorenzkapelle and the railroad overpass near Lettenhof (here the path is easier to walk/ride on for people with limited mobility).

The Kunstweg Kluftern is an open-air museum with 16 works of art by local, regional and national artists. These are freely accessible. Anyone who wants to can touch them. Most of the artworks can even be walked through, as the common motto of the 12 artworks on the Kluftern circular path is TOR. Another four works of art around or in the church of St. Gangolf are dedicated to the theme of power and splendor. If you dare, you can sit on the petrified bones on the seat of the artwork "Throne". The art trail is part of the Lake Constance Art Trails.

By reducing the sun and all eight planets to a scale of 1:1 billion, the planet trail makes the space around us tangible. The large sun made of Corten steel or the planets made of precious bronze can and should be touched and understood. The information on sizes, distances and the extent of nearby space is provided without language barriers, haptically and by walking around. This makes our solar system and the tiny Earth within it accessible to children as young as kindergarten age. Many Lake Constance trail boards on the areas of nature conservation and landscape as well as history trail boards vividly explain the culturally shaped nature in and around Kluftern. This also turns the local circular trail into a nature and history trail. For example, a Lake Constance trail board in the beaver biotope near the Lettenhof farm explains the discovery of the oldest known ash tree trunk in the Lake Constance region. It grew here over 7,000 years ago, when the first farmers north of Lake Constance began to build their houses.
