Odenwald-Madonnen-Radweg: Alternativroute über den Katzenbuckel

For ambitious cyclists looking for steep climbs and long descents, the alternative western route is a real insider tip.

The route over the Katzenbuckel is slightly shorter than the certified eastern route and is not suitable for inexperienced cyclists.

The western route starts in Mudau and then leads mainly uphill towards Wagenschwend. From there, you cycle steadily up and down through Waldbrunn and past the villages of Ober- and Unterdielbach. Waldbrunn is best known for the Katzenbuckel, at 626 m the highest mountain in the Odenwald. The extinct volcano is a popular excursion destination in both summer and winter. Shortly after Unterdielbach, the steep descent into the Neckar Valley begins. Over a distance of around 5 km, the cycle path loses around 340 meters in altitude. Due to the nature of the path and the gradient, this route is only suitable for experienced cyclists.</p
