Description by the author

Back to the source - experience the Rems on quiet paths.

The route starts in Schwäbisch Gmünd near the train station. The cycle path first leads through the Remspark, which is adorned with flowers, into the old town. We recommend taking a short loop around the market square: Worth seeing are the historic half-timbered houses, the Heilig-Kreuz-Münster and St. John's Church with its prominent bell tower, the town's landmark.Past the university through the industrial estate, the route leaves the town and follows the Rems to the district of Hussenhofen through woods and meadows. There is time to rest on the newly designed banks of the Rems.

In the district of Zimmern, the Krone restaurant with its good regional cuisine, conservatory and outdoor seating invites you to take another break.

Away from Zimmern, the cycle path winds its way through a very scenic landscape between the Rems and Mühlkanal until it soon reaches Böbingen along the B 29. The municipality offers cyclists a beautiful barbecue area in the countryside, directly on the Rems and accompanies them all the way to the village with a trellis of impressive wooden figures. "Art on the adventure cycle path" is the motto of the section in the municipality of Böbingen. Many carvings can be admired along the way.Böbingen is passed on the outskirts of the town and a carved figure waves goodbye once again. The route now continues along the cycle path through a hilly, lovely landscape with meadows and pastures. Along the way, you will notice large wooden picture frames. It's worth stopping here. Nature provides the motifs, e.g. the silhouette of the three Kaiserberge mountains. The route rolls briskly downhill over the bridge of the Mögglingen bypass, which was opened to traffic in April 2019 after three years of construction. The Remstal cycle path was also relocated and has been open to traffic on new asphalt since May 2019.In the center of Mögglingen, the massive church of St. Peter and Paul, which contains art treasures of national importance, immediately catches the eye. Cyclists can relax their legs and souls on the lovingly designed church square. Plaques with sayings by important poets and philosophers, a fountain, sound bars and a "bookcase" offer nourishment for the soul and spirit. If you want to buy refreshments, drive up to the main road - where you will find a butcher's shop, restaurant and snack bar.The landscape between Mögglingen and Essingen is characterized by a wide plain with meadows and pastures. Here, the focus is on nature; agriculture is also practiced close to nature. Cattle graze peacefully on the pastures until Essingen is soon reached. If you still have some time, you can make a detour from here to the source of the Rems

.

At the end of the village, a newly built beer garden beckons and the "Rems-Lodges" in the oil mill offer overnight stays in unique wooden huts that are second to none.

On the gravel Rems spring path, cyclists are accompanied by a large wooden marble run newly built for the garden show and a skills course. After two km, the Remsquelle spring is reached. Set between three large stone blocks, the Rems emerges and then takes its course until it flows into the Neckar after its 80 km journey.

If you don't go to the source of the Rems, you can cross a small bridge over the Rems at the entrance to Essingen and reach the castle park, which was artfully planted for the garden show.

It is now not far to the Limes town of Aalen, the stage destination. A visit to the newly opened Limes Museum is highly recommended. Numerous cafés and restaurants await guests in the pedestrian zone.
