Walk across the wintry Breisach Münsterberg
The best place to start your walk is the market square in the lower town. Stop for a moment by the Christmas tree.
Then pick up a city map from Breisach-Touristik or use your smartphone to navigate: https://www.maqnify.com/rundwege/breisach-am-rhein.
Through the Gutgesellentor gate, you walk up towards St. Stephansmünster.
Using one of the many staircases, you will finally reach St. Stephansmünster, the landmark of Breisach am Rhein.
From the cathedral square, you have a wonderful panoramic view of the town, the Rhine, the Black Forest and the Vosges mountains.
And of course it's also worth taking a look inside St. Stephen's Minster. The church is normally open in the winter months from around 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
At Münsterplatz, the European bull awaits you for a selfie. Feel free to post on Instagram #visit_breisach
Continue on to the Kapuzinergasse. There, the Franciscan monastery garden invites you to take a break with plenty of seating and a great view. It is normally open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
From Kapuzinergasse, you cross over to Radbrunnenallee at the Radbrunnen tower. At the end of Radbrunnenallee, turn left into Goldengasse. Go through the Kapftor gate - another medieval gate - and turn left down the steps to the Rheintor gate.
The Rhine Gate was built in 1678 by the French fortress architect Jacques de Tarade. Since 1991, the interior has housed the Museum of City History, which offers an overview of Breisach's 4000-year history with numerous objects, pictures and models. Normally open: Tue-Fri. 2 to 5 pm, Sat. and Sun. public holidays 11:30 am to 5 pm. If the museum is closed due to corona, you can watch a few short videos here: https://vimeo.com/424001789/9950b89876
There are now two options for the way back to the market square:
1. through the Fischerhalde with a view of the Rhine
2. through Rheintorstraße, then Muggensturmstraße. Here you can make a stop at the Geldermann Privatsektkellerei. As things stand, you can definitely try and buy something in the store: www.geldermann.de
A detour down to the Rhine is also worthwhile. You can find out whether the boats are allowed to sail again here: www.bfs-linie.de
