Neckartal-Radweg Etappe 6: Besigheim - Bad Wimpfen

Wine enjoyment for all the senses

The 6th stage of the Neckar Valley cycle path is lined with imposing steep slopes and gentle vineyards. An impressive play of colors, especially in autumn.

While the eyes are tickled during the day, the taste buds are tickled after the tour. End the day with a good glass of wine in one of the region's typical wine taverns and wineries.

The winding alleyways of Besigheim are an experience. Perched high above the Neckar, the old town is a delight for any visitor. Just as tranquil as Besigheim is Lauffen, where the famous Katzenbeißer is grown.

Vineyards still dominate the banks of the Neckar, with small winegrowers' cottages peeking out from the slopes next to the river.

The capital of Württemberg viticulture is Heilbronn. The city is surrounded by vineyards like an amphitheater. The experimenta, Germany's largest science center, is located here. The 2019 Federal Horticultural Show has also brought a lot of other changes. Like a green lung, the Neckar runs through the city center almost like a park. Citybeach or Neckarbühne invite you to dangle your legs in the water during a break.

On the way towards the mouth of the river, you can visit a Bad Friedrichshall salt mine in Bad Friedrichshall. Before a town no less steeped in history awaits visitors on the other bank of the river: Bad Wimpfen, the largest Staufer imperial palace north of the Alps and a listed building in its entirety. Its silhouette with towers and walls on the banks of the Neckar is recognizable from afar.
