A hiking trail steeped in history and surrounded by rich flora
The free-standing Ringgenburg-Höhe on the edge of the Pfrunger Ried rises a good hundred meters above the surrounding landscape and proves to be a wonderful hiking area. Vertical Nagelfluh walls and caves still tell of the erosive power of the meltwater that created the Ostrach and Rotach valleys on either side. The porous Nagelfluh layers are home to a rich flora.Despite the woodland, the 725-metre-high mountain spur offers magnificent views down into the Ried. The fact that the Rinkenburg or Ringgenburg castle once stood at the top, a prehistoric fortress whose moats are still visible, adds to the attraction for many people.
