Vogelflug-Tour - Von Störchen, Reihern und Enten begleitet

The tour runs through very beautiful valley landscapes to the left and right of the Jagst and offers wonderful impressions. "On the way to unspoiled nature, small castles and chapels" is how one cyclist described it and added: "... a real insider tip!" Incidentally, the name "Vogelflug" came about when a young boy saw the route on the map and said: "A flying bird!". And there are indeed birds along the tour, including storks.

The "Three Castles Community" of Dörzbach was first mentioned in a document in 1230. The spring and autumn horse markets are well known. The Schubertiade, a private initiative, takes place in the courtyard of Eyb Castle. On the steep Jagst slopes, wine is grown in terraced vineyards on shell limestone soil.The 500-year-old St. Wendel zum Stein chapel stands in the middle of an untouched stretch of the Jagst riverbank. The late Gothic pilgrimage chapel was donated to fulfill a vow. According to legend, a shepherd found a treasure in a cave above the Jagst in ancient times. In gratitude, he built a small chapel in the cave. But every time he came back to the Jagst in two years' time, the little church had collapsed. Eventually he realized that the location was not the right one. It should not be in the cave, but by the river. And that is where the Sankt Wendel zum Stein chapel still stands today - between Hohebach and Dörzbach. It is highly likely that its location already served as a place of worship for the Celts.One thing is certain: the Catholic parish church in Meßbach "Zur heiligen Dreifaltigkeit" is a special gem on the tour. The church, built in 1776/77, is the most beautiful rococo church in Hohenlohe.
