Westweg-Etappe 09 (Ost): Kalte Herberge - Feldberg - Bärental

Up to Titisee, the Westweg still follows the European watershed. There, the Westweg splits into two main routes. While the western route heads towards Basel via the Feldberg, the Belchen and the Blauen, the eastern route crosses the Herzogenhorn, the Blössling and the Hohe Möhr to head for the Swiss town on the Rhine knee via the geologically interesting Dinkelberg.

From the Kalten Herberge, the Westweg follows the eastern side of the B 500, initially above and later below the road. At Lachenhäusle, the view is lost in the deeply incised Simonswald valley. A few kilometers further on, the remains of a defensive fortification at the Türkenlouis-Schanze on the Hohle Graben (1,045m) can be clearly seen in the spruce forest.

With wonderful views to the south, the trail circles the Doldenbühl (1,098m) and now heads for the inconspicuous Weißtannenhöhe (1,190m) via the Fahrenhalde, which offers great views. Bernau lies below to the right, dominated by the Feldberg massif filling the horizon.The trail leads down to Oberaltenweg with its typical Black Forest farmhouses via Fürsatzhöhe and the quaint Berghäusle hiking lodge. With every step towards Titisee, the question of "how to continue" becomes more and more important for those who are still undecided.

Because at the Kurhaus in Titisee, the Westweg splits into two variants.

Eastern route: The eastern variant circles the lake on the southern shore along the busy Seestraße. Behind the campsites at the mouth of the Seebach, the trail climbs steadily below the railroad line up to Feldberg-Bärental.
