Description by the author

Dark valleys, bright clearings and bizarre rock formations that have formed in the red sandstone over the course of several million years make the Kirkel Rock Trail so extraordinary. The rock path is also part of the 8 km long Kirkeler Tafeltour.

From the beginning in the forest, the rock path reaches the water rocks after a few minutes, which constantly release dripping water in both summer and winter. Geologists refer to this as a stratified spring. The water rocks are particularly attractive on frosty days when the water that gushes out freezes into slender, meter-long icicles. From up here, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the village and Kirkel Castle. The trail continues to the Frauenbrunnen, a well-known, mystical spring that was probably used as a place of worship by the Celts - another reason why the Romans and knights once liked it here.

After the Frauenbrunnen fountain, the hiking trail continues to the "entrance portal" of the rock path, where you walk past the imposing rocks for several hundred meters. On summer days, climbers can also be seen on the rocks from time to time. The last section back to the Naturfreundehaus runs downhill through a beautiful beech forest. The Lauschtour signposts can also be found in some places.
