E-Velo-Tour Saar-Wald-Begegnung

Between the Saar and the Hochwald forest lies a varied landscape with deep valleys and wooded hills. The e-bike route leads through this heart of the Saarschleifenland and through the lovely Saar valley.

The route starts at the Saargarten in Beckingen. This park, located directly on the river, is part of the international "Gardens without Borders" project. It is particularly worth a visit for families. Numerous play equipment in the park (including a large lighthouse and a wooden ship) invite children to play and climb. The neighboring soccer golf course also invites you to linger. The route then leads through Beckingen into the Haustadt valley with its wooded heights. At Hargarten, the trail climbs the Merching shell limestone plateau and then leads over hill and dale to Losheim with its reservoir of the same name. The Losheim reservoir offers numerous leisure activities by the water. You can plan a longer break with a round of mini golf at the local course. A detour to the town allows you to visit the railroad museum. The E-bike route continues through a longer forest passage and reaches the Saar valley again at Mettlach. Here, the ride can be interrupted for a visit to the Ceramics Adventure Worlds and the Villeroy & Boch factory outlet. The Church of the Holy Sepulchre of St. Lutwinus and the Old Abbey with its old tower and park are also worth a visit. Excursion boats are available for round trips on the banks of the Saar. The e-bike route now follows the Saar upstream and first leads through the famous Saar Loop. It then passes the district town of Merzig with its countless sights. The town park with its salt works, the old town with its many restaurants and bars, the historic town hall (inside there are terracottas from Herrenchiemsee) and the Romanesque church of St. Peter are worthwhile excursion destinations. Another highlight is "Das Bad" in the leisure area, which can also be seen on this tour. Continuing along the Saar, the trail crosses the river at the Rehlingen-Beckingen lock and leads a short distance back downstream to the starting point at the Saargarten in Beckingen.
