Traumschleife Der Bergener

A varied trail through different forest formations and orchards full of idyllic moments. After an extensive forest hike, the second part of the tour features open meadow and field landscapes with wonderful views and quiet zones.

The tour starts at the entrance portal between the campsite and equestrian facility at the Girtenmühle. In the nearby forest, the route initially follows the course of the Panzbach stream. Along the Rotenbach stream and several times over stepping stones, the path meanders gently uphill like a lindworm, partly over rocky ground, partly soft forest soil or a tangle of roots.After an old quarry with a rest area, the trail descends, first in the forest, later along the forest. Between mountains and pastures, the view opens up to Merzig and further into the Lorraine Steps. You enter the nearby forest via a wooden footbridge. A constant uphill and downhill section takes you to a bench above an old quarry with a view over the high forest.

The path leads downhill along the Metzenbach stream. After crossing the stream, stepping stones and small wooden footbridges lead through a primeval forest landscape.

Above the mountains are benches. From here, you can enjoy the view over the wooded hills of the surrounding area. Just a few meters from the view is a small chapel on the edge of the path, which was built in 1914/15 during the First World War.The Traumschleife Der Bergener has been nominated for the most beautiful hiking trail of 2021
