Short description

The Berlin-Leipzig cycle path leads from the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to Leipzig Central Station and connects historically significant cities such as Jüterbog and Lutherstadt Wittenberg with relaxing natural landscapes such as the Fläming Nature Park or the Dübener Heide Nature Park.

Description

The Berlin-Leipzig cycle path with a total length of approximately 250 km mostly runs on paved cycle paths. However, the route also follows traffic-calmed country roads and cycle paths along federal roads. Expect some unpaved sections in the forests of the Dübener Heide Nature Park. All in all, the Berlin-Leipzig cycle path offers a varied and adventurous ride, which can be comfortably completed in several stages or quickly with a bike over a weekend.

Route description

If you leave Berlin in a southerly direction, you will pass through the charming lake area between Rangsdorf and Mellensee. In Stülpe, you will reach the unique Flaeming-Skate and cycle on the finest asphalt through Luckenwalde, Kloster Zinna, and Jüterbog towards Lutherstadt Wittenberg, which invites you to visit its UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The Lutherhaus, the Castle Church, the Town Church with the Cranach Altar, and the Melanchthon House are part of the UNESCO World Heritage and are worth an extensive visit. At Wittenberg Market, the most popular German cycle paths (Elbe Cycle Path, Euro Cycle Path) intersect. Before passing through the Dübener Heide Nature Park with its extensive forest areas, moors, and picturesque small towns, you will ride through the wide Elbe floodplain. The route passes directly by the water paradise of Bergwitzsee. Between the spa towns of Bad Schmiedeberg, known for its moor baths, and Bad Düben, the cycle path reaches its highest point near Wurzelberg at 180 meters above sea level. After that, you will continue through the northern Saxon realm of mills. The last section of the tour leads through rural areas and water-rich park landscapes of the Leipzig New Lake District before ending in the center of the trade fair city.
