RemstalWeg Etappe 03: von Schorndorf-Steinmäurich nach Unterkirneck

Hiking enjoyment on the third stage of the RemstalWeges from Schorndorf-Steinmäurich to Lorch-Hohenlinde. This stage takes you through the northern foothills of the Schurwald forest on part of the historic "Kaisersträßle" trail.

You start at the Spittler Stift bus stop and head straight uphill into the Schorndorf town forest. You will now pass the foothills of the Herrschaftsklinge and Siebenklinge (Klingen are small notch valleys created by water and debris erosion), whose waters will later join to form the Eichenbach, which crosses Schorndorf underground and later flows into the Rems. The Schönblickhütte (a refuge) is located along the way.

Continue uphill for a short distance on the old path past the Frauenberg with the "Geisterhäusle". The name of this present-day forester's cottage goes back to the legend of a wild robber who was punished by wild forest spirits. At the water tower, continue uphill to the L 1147 road and cross to the east towards Plüderhausen, continuing through the Berkener Wand to the Plüderhausen district with the Rehhaldenhütte. After about ten minutes, you will come across a memorial stone that marks the town and district boundaries between Plüderhausen and Lorch or the Rems-Murr district and the Ostalbkreis district.

Now you walk along the "Remshalde" forest area, part of Waldhausen and therefore belonging to the town of Lorch. You walk north of the Kaisersträßle, a medieval east-west connection over the ridges of the Schurwald. As you leave the Schurwald forest, you finally come to the Kaisersträßle, which you walk along with a view of the Rems valley until you reach Rattenharz, whose landmark - the wooden church built in 1959 - invites you to take a short detour. From there, it is only a few meters to Unterkirneck and on to the Hohenlinde bus stop, from where you can take the bus to Lorch or head downhill via the Muckensee lake to Lorch.
