Farm gardens in the Uckermark region are treasure troves of biological diversity. They provide a refuge for rare animal and plant species and shape the image of numerous traditionally used gardens such as those in Schmargendorf. Several times a year, these gardens are accessible to interested visitors during the Open Gardens event. A visit to the Blumberger Mühle nature garden on the edge of the Grumsin beech forest is also highly recommended. All destinations are easily accessible by excursion buses or can be combined with a hike.Start / End: Angermünde train stationLogo / Route marker: turquoise G on a white backgroundArrival / Departure: Public transport: from Berlin Hauptbahnhof take Regional Express RE3 to Angermünde, then continue with the BiberBus or WelterbeBus (timetables at: https://uvg-online.com/biberbuswelterbebus and https://uvg-online.com/welterbebus-grumsin)Car: from Berlin take the A11 motorway to the Joachimsthal exit, then continue on Bundesstraße B198 to Angermünde: from Berlin take the Bundes-/Landesstraße B2/L200 and B198 to AngermündeRoute: Angermünde train station, Blumberger Mühle (BiberBus): Angermünde train station, Schmargendorf, Altkünkendorf (WelterbeBus)Directions: This tour of the various gardens in the Uckermark region is best combined with one of the many excursion bus offers. For example, start at Angermünde train station with the WelterbeBus to Schmargendorf, which operates between April and October. There you will find the agricultural enterprise Hemme Milch, which has been operated for 18 generations. On the premises of Hemme Milch, there is also a play yard for children, consisting of a playground with slide, sandbox, hay bath, and plenty of toys for the little ones. Around the farm, there is also a nature trail of about 500 meters with a farm garden, herb spiral, and a foot reflexology path.In Schmargendorf, the hike starts on the Genusswanderweg, which leads through the Grumsin beech forest. This deciduous forest was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2011, making it one of the most important forest areas worldwide. The trail is marked with a turquoise G on a white background and leads through Zuchenberg and the Luisenhof to the village of Altkünkendorf. There you will find the Infopunkt Weltnaturerbe Buchenwald Grumsin, providing plenty of information about the flora and fauna of this unique beech forest. If you prefer not to walk back, you can take the WelterbeBus back to Angermünde train station from there.Another possible tour takes you with the BiberBus from Angermünde train station to Blumberger Mühle. There you will find a multimedia experience center about the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve. The information center is designed like a hollow tree stump - a symbol for the natural cycles. Outside, paths lead through the nature garden, which consists of a herb garden, ponds, meadows, and a reed forest. Those interested in the small treasure troves of biological diversity should visit the Uckermark region when private gardens open their doors to interested visitors. The changing dates occur twice a year - in June and September. During these times, you can wander through the Open Gardens again, gather ideas, exchange plants, or simply admire what can be achieved in different garden situations. Some gardens, green spaces, and nurseries also open for special occasions or special dates. This includes the farm garden of the Sonntag family in Schmargendorf - which is not only open in spring and autumn, but also on a special date in July.
