The winding hiking trail begins at the Villa Waldeck at the hiking parking lot. The moat and ramparts were built on the north-eastern edge of the Hornbuckel at the end of the 17th century as part of the construction of the Eppinger Lines. The Himmelsleiter can be found there. This is a climb in the Eppingen forest with 202 steps, starting from the Philosophenweg and ending at the Baumannshütte. The path then leads to the Eppinger Line. This was built in 1695/97 by the "Türkenlouis" Margrave Wilhelm von Baden for protection against the French. For the really fit hikers, a fitness course has been set up on the hiking trail. At Kraichgaublick, you have a wonderful view of Eppingen and deep into the Kraichgau. The Steinsberg is clearly visible on the right, with the Odenwald in the background. The Ottilienberg is Eppingen's local mountain and 310 m high. For generations of Eppingen residents, the mountain has been a popular destination for a Sunday outing. From the Ottilienberg, the trail descends to the Jägersee lake. Past the Essigbergblick, which also offers a beautiful view, you return to the starting point, the hiking parking lot.
