The woodpecker invites you into its territory on this nature trail. You will pass a wolf pit and many illustrated information boards that explain the forest and its inhabitants.

The woodpecker nature trail is a great circular walk for young and old. It leads along forest and nature trails through the forest in Hagenschieß. The six-kilometre nature trail also leads past the "Felsenmeer" nature reserve. The many illustrated information boards provide information about the numerous inhabitants and themes of the forest. An attentive observer may even spot one or two along the way.

The wolf pit is also very exciting. It proves that the tranquil northern Black Forest was once home to wolves. Wolf pits were created in the region to protect the farmers' livestock. The pits were covered with straw and brushwood. Live bait was sometimes placed on top. To prevent the wolves, which are also known as good jumpers, from escaping from the pit, stone slabs were placed in the corners as a barrier.
