Saale Cycle Path Stage 8 - From Halle (Saale) to Bernburg (Saale)

Description

From Halle, the cycle path leads through the unique landscape of the Unteres Saaletal nature park. High above the Saaletal, the ancestral castle of the Wettiner family towers over the village of Wettin. The remarkable historical Templar chapel in Mücheln invites you to concerts during the summer months. The route continues to the old shipping town of Alsleben with its Saaltor gate as a former part of the city wall.

 

The former residence castle of Plötzkau of the former Duchy of Anhalt-Plötzkau greets visitors from afar. The castle houses a small museum about the history of the former duchy. The castle courtyard with a view over the floodplain forest invites you to linger.

 

The cycle path now leads through the diverse floodplain forest between Plötzkau and Bernburg. The old ducal residence town of the former Duchy of Anhalt-Bernburg marks the end of the stage. However, the picturesque castle – also known as the Crown of Anhalt –, the historical mountain and valley town, the Romanesque village church of St. Stephani in the Waldau district, and the fairytale garden Paradies with its park railway ensure there is no room for boredom. For those who still have energy after visiting the many sights, they can explore the Saale River with the passenger ship MS Saalefee.
