Hamburg-Rügen bike path

Hamburg, Northern Germany's largest metropolis, is the starting point of the approximately 500 km long bike tour to Rügen. After the start you cycle along the banks of the Elbe to Geesthacht in the Duchy of Lauenburg. From there, you will pass through the towns of Lauenburg, Büchen and Mölln to Ratzeburg. Then you cross the state border into Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and ride via Schwerin, Güstrow, Teterow, Demmin and Stralsund to Rügen.

The Hamburg-Rügen cycle route, which runs for just over 100 km through the varied landscape of Schleswig-Holstein, runs along the medieval trade route that connected the mouths of the Elbe and Oder rivers. Across the Duchy of Lauenburg in southern Schleswig-Holstein, the route runs from Geesthacht to Ratzeburg, passes the Elbe-Lübeck Canal and leads through picturesque Elbe meadows and charming small towns. Overall, you will cross nature reserves, ride through forests, over rolling hills, past lakes and moors. In the Schaalsee biosphere reserve you can marvel at a rich flora and fauna. An Eldorado for nature lovers. After leaving Ratzeburg behind, the tour continues to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
