Round tour to Bronnen Castle, high above the Danube valley
A new side to the Danube valley
The Danube Valley has always been a popular excursion and hiking destination. The "Swabian Grand Canyon", the valley through which the Danube flows between Mühlheim and Inzigkofen, never ceases to fascinate people. But few people know it from this side, from the heights of Buchheim.
Bronnen Castle was probably built in the first half of the 12th century. In 1409, it came into the possession of the Lords of Enzberg and has been owned by this family, which is based in Mühlheim an der Donau, for over 600 years. After being expropriated by the National Socialists during the Third Reich, the castle served as a temporary residence and official residence for the Reich women's leader Gertrude Scholtz-Klink. Since its return after the war, it has once again been in the possession of the von Enzberg family. It is used privately and is unfortunately not accessible to visitors.</p
