Print out the rally or take it with you on your smartphone straight out into the field!
The rally is approx. 6 km long and takes place on a section of the Muschelkalk Eco Trail in the Diemel Valley between the two districts of Lamerden and Ostheim in the town of Liebenau. Incidentally, part of the trail also runs through North Rhine-Westphalia, so you are walking in two federal states. (Until the beginning of May you will also find boards with the tasks on site, after that they will be taken down, as we have unfortunately had several cases of vandalism. We have therefore decided to make the tasks available to you digitally).
The starting point is in Lamerden at the "Zur Friedenseiche" inn. Free parking is available here. First you walk a little way through the village. The "Lindenberg" road leads you out of Lamerden. Now always follow the Eco Trail Muschelkalk markings (red shell). The first ascent will be strenuous, but after that the trail will be beautiful - that's a promise! Narrow, natural paths lead through the limestone beech forest, where many flowers and plants bloom in spring and summer. Purple, white, yellow, green - there is so much to discover here and experience with all your senses.
Here are your tasks and games for the road:
Orchard meadow & apple trees: right at the start of the trail, you will see a small orchard meadow on the left-hand side. Name five things you can make from apples! By the way, did you know that the apple tree belongs to the rose family? It doesn't look like a rose at all? Then you should take a closer look at the blossoms and compare them with the blossoms of dog roses, for example! The larger the leaves of an apple tree are, the larger the apples will be.
Feel & guess: As soon as you enter the forest, take it in turns to look for things that the other person can feel and guess behind their back (nothing living, please). How many things can you guess?
Smell: In spring at the right time (April - mid-May) you come to an area in the forest where it smells of garlic! Can you smell it? Which plant do you think this smell comes from? At first you only see its leaves, later white star-shaped flowers bloom. As the flowers bloom, the smell and taste of the plant become milder... Do you know what it's called?
Just like in the jungle: pay attention. You'll soon come to an area where you'll feel like you're in the jungle. Do you know the story of Tarzan? Tell it to each other!
Race to find something: Find something: sharp-edged, soft, light, hard, round, thin, monster-like... How many different things could you find?
Listen: Close your eyes for a moment. What can you hear? You will probably hear some birds. Open your eyes again and then try to find it!
Knock like a woodpecker: Did you know that a woodpecker can knock up to 20 times per second? Try tapping with two pieces of wood like a woodpecker. By the way: Every woodpecker knocks differently... Do you know different types of woodpecker? A little tip: They start with colors!
Observe: Many animals live not only in the trees, but also in the soil and on the forest floor. Which forest animals do you know? Then find at least five animals that you can observe together. Please be careful & release them afterwards!
Artwork: Wonderful works of art can be created from natural materials. Be creative and make your own work of art from sticks, stones, leaves and flowers. Perhaps a forest gnome or a mandala? If you feel like it, send us a photo of your artwork to [email protected] with the subject line "Family forest rally". P.S.: You can also win something :-)As soon as you leave the forest path and reach the cycle path along the Diemel, you have reached the end of the rally. For the way back, please take the cycle path (please watch out for cyclists and show consideration for each other), or take the same route back. You are welcome to add your own tasks to the rally. For example, play the game "I see something you don't see" on the way back!
The family forest rally takes approx. 2 hours and is recommended for children aged 5 and over. The trail is also suitable for baby carriages to a limited extent (many natural paths and some narrow sections and a few short climbs to negotiate).
Of course, you can also complete the tasks on other hiking trails, e.g. one of the 40 or so nature park circular hiking trails. You can find more hiking trails in our tour planner at https://www.naturpark-reinhard...
And now - put on your shoes and jacket, pack your rucksack with provisions and head out into the forest!
We wish you lots of fun!
